Islamabad talks hailed as diplomatic triumph

Published on: April 16, 2026 6:48 PM

GUJRAT — A seminar at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) on Thursday highlighted Pakistan’s pivotal role in steering peace efforts amid the recent US–Iran conflict, hailing it as Islamabad’s diplomatic triumph.

The one-day seminar, titled ‘Pakistan’s Foreign Policy Success – Islamabad Dialogue: Navigating through Dark Clouds and Creating a Silver Lining for the World’, was hosted by the Department of Political Science and International Relations. It underscored Pakistan’s remarkable diplomatic initiatives that helped bring warring parties to the negotiation table, earning global recognition for its civil and military leadership. The Islamabad talks were hailed as a landmark achievement, pulling the international community back from the brink of despair and reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to global peace and stability.

Keynote speaker Dr. Muhammad Mustansar Billah emphasized that wars often stem from flawed government policies, with Middle Eastern conflicts disproportionately affecting global energy supplies and economies. He noted that disruptions during the recent US–Iran confrontation posed grave risks to world GDP and stability. Pakistan’s mediation, he said, was a responsible and commendable act that mitigated catastrophic consequences.

Other distinguished speakers — Dr. Sultan Mubarez, Dr. Muhammad Ramzan Shahid and Usman Ghani — praised Pakistan’s foreign policy for safeguarding Muslim interests and fostering dialogue. They highlighted visits by Pakistani leadership to regional capitals, including a significant diplomatic mission to China, as evidence of Pakistan’s proactive peace strategy.
Chairperson Dr Muhammad Mushtaq, presiding over the seminar, observed that the conflict signals a shift from a unipolar to a multipolar world order, with Pakistan’s role in the Islamabad Talks shining as a beacon of hope.

The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where students actively participated, and speakers provided comprehensive responses. Dr. Mushtaq expressed gratitude to the esteemed guests, speakers, and participants for their contribution to the seminar’s success.
