Iran War and Pakistan’s Role

The Middle East today stands at a critical and perilous crossroads in history. Nearly a month has passed since the outbreak of war between Iran and the United States, and in this short span, the scale of destruction and human tragedy has been deeply alarming. Thousands of innocent lives have been lost due to American bombardment in Iran, while vital infrastructure has been pushed to the brink of collapse.

On the other hand, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has shaken the global economy, with oil prices soaring uncontrollably and a new wave of inflation spreading across the world. In such grave circumstances, Pakistan’s role has gained significant importance. Pakistan has not only expressed deep concern over the crisis but has also taken practical steps toward promoting peace. In particular, the diplomatic efforts of Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, are noteworthy.

He established contact not only with Recep Tayyip Erdo?an but, according to recent developments, also held a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, during which the deteriorating regional situation and possible measures to end the war were discussed. This engagement clearly reflects that Pakistan is playing a responsible and active role not only regionally but also globally. Direct communication with a major power like the United States and encouraging it toward dialogue can be seen as a significant diplomatic achievement.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, also reached out to Iranian leadership and held discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasizing the urgent need for peace and stability in the region. He stressed that war is not a solution to any problem; rather, it aggravates crises further. Pakistan advised Iran to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue an approach that reflects the sincerity of a responsible neighbor and a trusted friend.

Pakistan’s demonstration of wisdom, responsibility, and proactive diplomacy is highly commendable.

The joint efforts of Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt to bring an end to this war represent a highly positive development. This alignment indicates that the Muslim world is beginning to take collective responsibility for resolving its own issues rather than relying solely on external powers. If these diplomatic initiatives succeed, they could not only help end the current conflict but also lay the foundation for preventing similar crises in the future.

Pakistan’s offer to mediate is both timely and prudent. Historically, Pakistan has played a constructive role in promoting peace in international conflicts. Whether at the United Nations or through bilateral engagements, Pakistan has consistently advocated for dialogue, stability, and adherence to international law.The ongoing war between Iran and the United States is not merely a bilateral conflict, its repercussions are being felt worldwide.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has severely disrupted global trade and energy supply chains. Europe, Asia, and other regions are facing growing energy shortages, while developing countries already struggling economically are bearing the brunt of this crisis. In such a situation, Pakistan serves as a bridge, capable of bringing diverse nations and powers to the negotiating table. Its balanced relations with the United States, Iran, Turkey, and other countries position it well to act as an effective mediator.

It is also important to note that Pakistan itself has long suffered from the devastating consequences of war and terrorism. Having made immense sacrifices to restore peace within its own borders, Pakistan fully understands the horrors of conflict. This is precisely why it is making every possible effort to prevent further escalation. Pakistan’s recent diplomatic engagements clearly demonstrate that it is not only safeguarding its national interests but also actively contributing to global peace. Field Marshal Asim Munir’s contact with President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s engagement with President Hassan Rouhani indicate that Pakistan is maintaining communication with both sides, positioning itself as a balanced and credible mediator.

If the international community is truly serious about ending this war, it must take the efforts of countries like Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt seriously. The use of force must give way to dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect only then can lasting peace be achieved. In conclusion, the ongoing war between Iran and the United States has become a dangerous test for the entire world. Its immediate resolution is an urgent necessity. Pakistan’s demonstration of wisdom, responsibility, and proactive diplomacy is highly commendable. If its mediation efforts succeed, it would mark a major achievement not only for the region but for the entire world.Once again, Pakistan is proving that it is not merely a state pursuing its own interests, but a messenger of peace standing with humanity in difficult times and guiding the world toward dialogue instead of conflict.
