Karachi admin moves to develop, rehabilitate industrial zones

A key meeting regarding the rehabilitation and development of the city’s industrial zones was held at the Commissioner Office under the joint chairmanship of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab and Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi. The meeting was attended by representatives of various industrial trade associations, the Secretary Labour, and other relevant officials.

During the meeting, trade and industrial associations gave detailed briefings on the proposed development schemes in their respective areas. SITE Super Highway Association presented proposals worth Rs 600 million for three different projects, while schemes worth Rs 2 billion were proposed for KITE. Similarly, development projects worth Rs 859 million were presented by the FB Area Association, Rs 2 billion for Landhi Association, and Rs 1 billion for North Karachi Association. Schemes worth Rs 621 million for Bin Qasim Industrial Area were also reviewed.

Addressing the meeting, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab stated that the rehabilitation and development of Karachi’s industrial zones is a top priority of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. He expressed his commitment that development work will be made more efficient and expedited through implementation on a fast-track basis under public-private partnership.

He further said that the provision of funds to trade and industrial associations will begin soon so that projects can be completed on time. The Mayor Karachi requested associations to also provide completion timelines along with their proposed schemes to ensure that traders and citizens can receive relief at the earliest.

On this occasion, the Mayor Karachi reiterated his resolve to work in collaboration with all stakeholders to transform Karachi into a modern and developed industrial city.
