Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced the construction of a new Sukkur-Rohri bridge over the Indus River. The announcement came during the 51st Public-Private Partnership Policy Board meeting, which approved major infrastructure projects in Sindh. The new bridge aims to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the region.
According to the CM’s spokesperson, the board also approved reforms to boost private sector investment in Sindh. The new Sukkur-Rohri bridge will be approximately 1.5 kilometers long and multi-lane, featuring separate paths for heavy vehicles and pedestrians. The project is designed to enhance urban and economic connectivity between Sukkur, Rohri, and surrounding areas.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated that the new bridge will ease traffic pressure on existing routes and provide an efficient link between key towns. The bridge is expected to support economic activities and facilitate smoother transportation for commuters and businesses alike.
Minister for Local Government Nasir Shah briefed that Sukkur and Rohri form an integrated urban and economic corridor. Currently, traffic relies on the Lansdowne Bridge, which is undergoing repairs with assistance from Sukkur Barrage and will remain partially closed to the public until at least 2027. Heavy vehicles are not allowed on Lansdowne Bridge to protect emergency services and reduce congestion.

The CM also approved the Project Development Facility for the new Sukkur-Rohri bridge. Once completed, the bridge is expected to significantly reduce traffic jams, improve emergency response times, and support regional growth by providing a modern, multi-lane crossing over the Indus River.
