The statement noted that the number of personnel at the base had been reduced in recent days due to the “evolving security situation in the area.” Those remaining were deployed to carry out essential mission activities. The affected aircraft was described as an essential asset for operational operations, and its presence at the base ensured continuity of the mission.
This incident follows a similar attack last week on an Italian military base in Iraqi Kurdistan. No injuries occurred in that attack either. In response, Italy temporarily withdrew its personnel — numbering fewer than 300 — who were stationed in Erbil to train local security forces as part of an international coalition.
Italian military officials emphasized that the attacks have not compromised operational capabilities and that security measures continue to be strengthened at both Kuwait and Iraqi bases. The government has not linked the attacks to any specific group, but the strikes come amid rising regional tensions in the Middle East.
Authorities also reassured families and the public that the safety of Italian personnel remains the top priority. Meanwhile, Italian and allied forces are maintaining vigilance and operational readiness to respond to any further threats in the region.

The drone attacks underline the growing challenges faced by international forces stationed in the Middle East as regional conflicts escalate, highlighting the importance of robust security measures to protect both personnel and critical assets.
