At least six months were killed during a successful Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) conducted by counter terrorism department (CTD) in Lakki Marwat district on Saturday.

The shootout started at Shagei area within the jurisdiction of Gambila Police Station, District Lakki Marwat, when militants opened fire on the SWAT team as soon as they saw them.

CTD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) retaliated in self-defense, killing six militants, while others managed to escape.

The militants killed in the operation were reportedly a source of fear and terror in the area and have now been brought to justice.

Four Kalashnikov rifles, two 9mm pistols, eight hand grenades, one improvised explosive device (IED), magazines, and ammunition were recovered from militants’ possessions.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed and Additional IGP CTD appreciated the bravery and professionalism of the CTD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team for the successful operation.

The IGP said that terrorists will be pursued even in their hideouts and brought to justice. He emphasized that the sacrifices of martyrs will not go in vain, and enemies of peace will be eliminated.

The IGP said that the brave personnel who stand firm against terrorists for the defense of the homeland and the establishment of peace are a valuable asset of the country.

The sacrifices of the martyred police will not be in vain and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police will continue its efforts to eliminate terrorism, said the IGP.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Saturday, commended the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officers and personnel for the successful operation against Fitna-al-Khwarij in Shagai, District Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The president appreciated the bravery, professionalism, and timely action of the CTD team that eliminated six Khwariji terrorists during the operation, President’s Secretariat Media Wing said in a press release.

He reiterated that the operations against the terrorists of Fitna-al-Khawarij, who are active with external support, were very significant for the peace in the country, adding that the state was confronting all the external and internal threats of terrorism with full force.

The president said any attempt to target Pakistan’s urban areas would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He said Pakistan’s armed forces and security institutions were fully prepared and determined to defend the country and protect its people.

President Zardari further said that Pakistan would continue to take every possible step to protect its land and its citizens against threats of terrorism.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday commended the officers and personnel of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) for carrying out a successful operation against militants in Shagai area of Lakki Marwat.

The prime minister praised professional capabilities of the CTD officials for eliminating six militants during the operation.

He said the successful action reflected commitment and preparedness of the law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism.

Shehbaz Sharif said the war against terrorism would continue until it was completely eradicated from the country. He added that officials of law enforcement agencies, including the CTD, were working day and night to cleanse the homeland of terrorists.

The prime minister said the entire nation was proud of the sacrifices and dedication of the security forces and law enforcement agencies.
