NA passes Daanish University Islamabad Bill, 2026

The National Assembly on Tuesday passed The Daanish University Islamabad Bill, 2026. The government bill was presented in the House by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.

Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah said the university will provide higher education opportunities for orphaned children in Islamabad, describing them as “the poor of the poorest.”

Currently, 210 children are enrolled, while around 7,000 applications are still pending.

The university is designed to serve children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring they have access to quality education up to the university level.

Moreover, the NA on Tuesday passed six private members’ bills with majority votes.

The bills passed included, The Islamabad Capital Territory Charities Registration, Regulation and Facilitation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, The Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2025, The Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2025, The Pakistan Names and Emblems (Prevention of Unauthorized Use) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, The Islamabad Capital Territory Compulsory Thalassemia Screening Bill, 2025, The Federal Supervision of Curricula, Text-Books and Maintenance of Standards of Education (Amendment) Bill, 2026

Meanwhile, The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was deferred to the next session at the request of Syed Naveed Qamar.

The Higher Education Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2026, were referred to committees for further review.

Additionally, the National Counterfeit Currency Control Authority Bill, 2026, was introduced and referred to a committee for consideration.
