Punjab CM directs police to handle protesters with dignity and respect

Published on: March 2, 2026 5:14 AM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed the police and district administration to understand the sentiments of protesters and ensure they were treated with dignity and respect.

According to a handout issued here on Sunday, the chief minister said that arrangements were being made for Iftar for the protesters.

The CM said that every Muslim was deeply grieved and saddened at this time, but maintaining peace and law and order in the country and cities remains a collective responsibility. “Please fulfil your duty of maintaining law and order,” she urged, adding that in every moment of sorrow, the nation stands united.

Punjab Minister for Information and Culture has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the recent attack on Iran and the martyrdom of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, calling the incident a matter of grave concern for the entire region.

In her statement, Azma Bokhari said the tragic development is not only distressing for Iran but also poses serious implications for regional peace and stability. She said Pakistan shares the grief of the Iranian people during this difficult time and stands firmly by their side.

The provincial minister stated that Pakistan has extended diplomatic and moral support to Iran at every possible level and has strongly condemned the attack on international forums, including the United Nations. She reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to promoting peace and stability in the region.

Azma Bokhari further emphasized that in the current sensitive situation, it is the responsibility of religious and political parties, as well as the general public, to exercise patience and restraint. She warned that if protests within the country turn violent or if individuals take the law into their own hands, it could serve the interests of hostile elements seeking to create instability.

She urged citizens to control their emotions and ensure that any form of protest remains entirely peaceful to avoid unrest or damage within the country.

Concluding her statement, Azma Bokhari said that national unity, solidarity and stability are Pakistan’s greatest strengths in this critical time, and all citizens must place the country’s interests above everything else.
