PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) provincial president Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Monday accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of administrative paralysis and failing to support displaced families from Tirah Valley.

Addressing a protest at Peshtakhra Chowk organised by ANP’s Khyber chapter, Hussain said residents uprooted from Tirah had been deprived of homes, land and livelihoods and left without meaningful state assistance. “What kind of government abandons its own citizens to fend for themselves?” he asked, adding that conditions in the chief minister’s home district reflected broader governance failures across the province.
He alleged that registration centres for displaced people had turned into “centres of humiliation” rather than rehabilitation hubs and accused authorities of failing to deliver relief. Hussain also claimed that Rs4 billion allocated for Tirah rehabilitation had been lost to corruption, demanding transparency and accountability in spending.
Calling the issue a constitutional and moral obligation, he said the provincial administration was evading responsibility while those advocating for displaced families — including political workers and activists — faced harassment and intimidation. He described the situation as evidence of “fascist-style governance”.
Hussain also expressed alarm over worsening security, saying attacks had become routine from Waziristan to Chitral, Bajaur, Bannu and Shangla. Referring to a recent bombing outside a police station in Bannu that killed two civilians, including a child, and the killing of three policemen in Shangla, he said law and order had slipped out of control despite sacrifices by security forces.

He further criticised both provincial and federal governments for political point-scoring while public safety deteriorated. The ANP leader said his party would continue campaigning on all forums for the rights and rehabilitation of Tirah’s displaced population.
