ANP leader’s house destroyed in Tirah valley blast

Published on: January 6, 2026 10:31 AM

The house of Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber district president Abdur Razzaq Afridi was blown up by terrorists on Monday in Tirah valley, Khyber. The attack comes after Afridi had been receiving threats for some time, urging him to abandon his campaign for peace in the region.

Sources in Bara said the newly-built house in the Kalana area was targeted in the morning with explosives, completely destroying the structure. The attack follows an earlier incident in 2025 when a portion of Afridi’s house had been set on fire by militants. Despite the repeated threats and attacks, Afridi vowed that terrorism would not deter his efforts to promote lasting peace in Tirah and Bara.

Meanwhile, negotiations continued between a jirga of Tirah elders and armed members of the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for the second consecutive day to secure the release of an abducted Malakdinkhel tribal elder. Sources reported that no progress had been made and no conditions had been communicated by the TTP team regarding the release of the elder.

Malak Islam Ghani, the abducted elder, was taken by the armed men while on his way to join the 24-member Tirah jirga. The jirga had been negotiating the timeline for evacuating families from different areas in Tirah ahead of a planned military operation.

The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in Tirah valley, where local leaders and communities continue to face threats from militant groups. Afridi’s resolve to continue advocating for peace underscores the ongoing struggle between authorities and armed militants in Khyber. Authorities have yet to comment on immediate measures to prevent further attacks or to ensure the safety of political figures in the region.
