
Today marks nine years since the passing of celebrated Pakistani literary icon Bano Qudsia, whose novels, plays, and radio scripts left a lasting mark on Urdu literature and culture.
Born on November 28, 1928 in Ferozepur, India, she migrated to Pakistan after partition and developed a passion for writing early, beginning her journey with short stories while in class five.
Qudsia graduated from Kinnaird College in Lahore and earned a master’s degree in Urdu from Government College, Lahore in 1951, establishing a strong foundation for her prolific writing career that spanned decades.

She married renowned writer Ashfaq Ahmed, and together they became one of Pakistan’s most influential literary couples, inspiring generations of writers and readers through their works and intellectual contributions.
Among her acclaimed creations are novels like Raja Gidh, Na Kabilay Zikar, and Bazgasht, while plays such as Aadhi Baat and Amar Bail further solidified her reputation as a versatile writer.

Bano Qudsia received top national awards including Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2003 and Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2010, and passed away on February 4, 2017 in Lahore at the age of 88, leaving an enduring literary legacy.
