Colder days ahead as Punjab braces for rain

Published on: January 31, 2026 4:15 PM

A new weather system is set to enter Punjab tonight, bringing rain and colder temperatures, the Meteorological Department said. Rawalpindi, Sargodha, and Faisalabad are likely to experience rainfall tomorrow. Temperatures across the province are expected to drop, with Lahore seeing a minimum of 9°C and a maximum of 21°C.

The system will influence weather in different parts of the country until February 3. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned of intensifying cold conditions nationwide during this period. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and prepare for chilly weather.

Rainfall is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Noshki, and Chaman. Snowfall is likely in surrounding mountainous areas, while upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan may face severe cold and heavy snow. PMD cautioned that slippery roads and potential landslides are risks in hilly areas.

Fog may reduce visibility in several regions, prompting officials to remain on high alert. Travellers have been advised to exercise caution, especially on mountain routes, as roads may become hazardous. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent accidents and disruptions.

Earlier this month, record snowfall in Naran and Kaghan blocked roads and electricity for five days. While the heavy snow created scenic landscapes, it caused major challenges for local communities. Similar conditions could recur with this new system.
