Punjab development drive gets june 2026 deadline

Published on: January 25, 2026 6:08 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to complete the Punjab Development Plan by June 2026, aiming to transform cities through cleaner environments, improved infrastructure, and modern urban facilities.
She issued these instructions while chairing a high-level meeting that reviewed progress on all ongoing projects, stressing transparency, efficiency, and strict adherence to timelines.

During the meeting, deputy commissioners from several districts, including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Vehari, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, and Kasur, presented detailed progress reports directly to the chief minister.
Maryam Nawaz emphasised accelerating sewerage, drainage, and core civic infrastructure projects, stating that delays directly affect public health and overall quality of life.

To strengthen oversight, the government will establish control rooms at both provincial and district levels to monitor projects in real time and address issues without delay.
The chief minister said she would personally supervise implementation to ensure accountability and swift resolution of administrative bottlenecks.

Under the Punjab Development Plan, authorities will construct 5,887 kilometres of sewerage lines and 181 drainage channels across 51 cities, significantly improving waste management systems.
In addition, the “Sohna Punjab” initiative will see the paving of 100 kilometres of roads and streets to create safer, cleaner, and more dignified neighbourhoods.

Major city-specific projects include extensive sewerage networks, pumping stations, generators, and road upgrades in Multan, alongside large-scale sanitation and drainage works in Dera Ghazi Khan and Bhakkar.
Concluding the meeting, Maryam Nawaz warned that negligence would not be tolerated and ordered all projects to be completed on time, transparently, and according to high-quality standards.
