Punjab courts enforce biometric checks to stop fraud

Published on: January 20, 2026 5:16 PM

Courts across Punjab have introduced mandatory NADRA-based biometric verification for all parties, marking a major step toward curbing fake litigation, fraudulent bail practices, and identity misuse within the justice system.

The initiative was launched after approval from the Lahore High Court chief justice and makes biometric authentication compulsory for petitioners, respondents, and sureties before filing any legal application.

Moreover, court officials clarified that no petition, bail request, or surety document will be entertained unless biometric verification is successfully completed through the national identity database system.

Authorities explained that the new mechanism aims to enhance transparency, ensure genuine participation of litigants, and prevent the long-standing problem of bogus cases and false guarantees.

Meanwhile, legal experts and lawyers’ bodies have welcomed the reform, stating that biometric checks will improve efficiency, reduce delays, and strengthen public confidence in judicial proceedings.

Legal circles further described the move as a landmark judicial reform, noting that technology-driven verification is expected to improve accountability and restore trust in Punjab’s justice system.

Key features of the new system:

  • Mandatory biometric verification for all parties
  • NADRA-based identity authentication
  • No filing without biometric clearance
  • Elimination of fake sureties and cases
  • Improved transparency and accountability
