Shaban moon not sighted; month to begin tomorrow

Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, announced on Monday that the crescent for Shaban 1447 Hijri was not sighted, and the month will therefore commence on Wednesday, January 21. The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony later issued a notification confirming that the crescent of Shaban was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened in Islamabad in the evening to consider evidence regarding the sighting of the crescent. The meeting was presided over by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad.
