The Prime Minister emphasized that international law serves as the benchmark to judge all government actions. He said the U.S. must explain its raid on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Starmer added that the situation is evolving and further developments are expected soon.

The remarks followed a U.S. special forces operation that captured Maduro and transferred him to a New York court. Maduro faces drug-trafficking charges linked to international cartels. The operation has sparked global debate on legality, sovereignty, and international intervention.
Starmer’s office rejected comparisons between the U.S. raid and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. A spokesperson highlighted that Russia’s actions were an “unprovoked, full-scale invasion” of a sovereign state. Britain continues to label Putin’s invasion illegal and has imposed strict sanctions on Russia.
