Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has imposed a daytime ban on heavy vehicles in the city for two months to reduce congestion and road accidents. The restrictions, issued under Section 144 CrPC, will be effective from December 23, 2025, to February 22, 2026. The ban covers most heavy vehicles, including dumpers carrying construction material, during daytime hours.
Under the orders, heavy traffic is completely barred from Jinnah Avenue, from Super Highway near Saima Pari Classic and Rufi Global City up to Malir Halt, Shahrah-e-Faisal. Vehicles transporting essential commodities such as water, edible oil, medical gases, and meat are exempted from the restrictions.

Specific routes have been designated for heavy vehicles, including the Super Highway via New Karachi Industrial Area, National Highway routes via Chowrangi intersections, Northern Bypass, and RCD Highway. An alternate route through Link Road (Eastern Bypass) connecting Kathore, Super Highway (M-9), and National Highway (N-5) has also been notified.
Dumpers fitted with approved tracking devices and operating within Karachi’s Industrial Zones are allowed to move outside the restricted timings. Traffic police and Station House Officers (SHOs) are authorized to take legal action against violators under Section 188 PPC.
The move follows a request from the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Traffic), citing increasing traffic jams and rising accidents caused by heavy vehicles during peak hours. Authorities say the ban aims to improve road safety and ensure smoother traffic flow.
