In compliance with the directives of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has taken another major step towards a digital judiciary by introducing a biometric verification system across the high court and district judiciary.
On the directions of LHC Chief Justice Miss Aalia Neelum, formal instructions have been issued for the implementation of biometric verification in the Lahore High Court and all district courts of Punjab, said a LHC press release issued on Tuesday.
Under the new system, biometric verification will be made mandatory for the filing of cases. The Lahore High Court has decided that litigating parties must undergo biometric verification, while witnesses and sureties will also be required to verify their identity through the same process.
According to the court authorities, the judicial biometric system will be linked with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) database to ensure authenticity. In addition, biometric verification facilities will also be available at NADRA e-Sahulat centers to facilitate litigants.
The biometric system will be implemented at the Lahore High Court’s Principal Seat in Lahore, as well as its benches in Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rawalpindi. Furthermore, all district courts across Punjab will also adopt biometric verification for litigants, witnesses, and sureties.
The initiative aims to eliminate fake litigation, curb forgery, and prevent the use of bogus witnesses and sureties. Court officials believe the move will strengthen transparency, enhance public trust in the judicial system, and provide greater protection to litigants.
