Russia has offered to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan to reduce rising border tensions. The announcement came from Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova. She said stability in the region is a priority for Russia and the international community. Zakharova urged both countries to exercise restraint and resolve disputes through dialogue.
She emphasized that Pakistan and Afghanistan are key partners, and a mediated solution could ensure lasting peace. Russia’s offer follows previous mediation attempts by Qatar and Turkey, which had temporarily secured a ceasefire. However, recent Istanbul talks failed to produce meaningful progress.

Zakharova warned that ongoing border tensions pose a risk to regional security. She called on both nations to continue negotiations and avoid actions that escalate conflicts. Dialogue remains the only sustainable solution, she added.
The announcement comes amid similar offers from other regional powers. Iran’s foreign minister recently expressed concern and offered mediation to help ease the Pakistan-Afghanistan standoff. Turkey has also planned to send a high-level delegation to Pakistan for talks.
