Published on: November 2, 2025 2:36 PM

Extortionist Lakho and Badsha groups' key operatives arrested in Karachi
KARACHI – In a major operation, the Rangers arrested a key operative of the notorious Wasiullah Lakho gang in Lyari, recovering weapons and ammunition from his possession.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, the highly wanted extortionist confessed to involvement in more than 50 cases of robbery and street crime, and over 11 incidents of murder and attempted murder. The suspect has been handed over to the police for further legal proceedings.

In a separate operation, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and CIA police arrested three suspects allegedly involved in extorting money from citizens engaged in property transactions. SSP Amjad Sheikh identified the suspects as Tanzeer, Shakeel, and Waqas — members of the Lyari-based Shakeel Badshah gang. Three 9mm pistols and several rounds of ammunition were seized during the raid in North Karachi’s industrial area.

Investigations revealed that the gang posed as real estate agents to collect personal details of property buyers and sellers before issuing extortion threats through foreign phone numbers. The suspects reportedly received between Rs90,000 and Rs200,000 for reconnaissance, while their leader collected hundreds of thousands of rupees in extortion via JazzCash.

The group was also involved in car lifting, attacks on police, and illegal arms possession. A case has been registered at the SIU police station, and further investigations are underway.
