Internet services suspended across Quetta amid security concerns

Published on: October 31, 2025 5:01 PM

Internet services were suspended across Quetta on Friday after the Balochistan government recommended the move due to heightened security concerns. The provincial Home Department formally requested the federal government to temporarily shut down internet access in the city to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain public safety. The decision comes amid growing security alerts and law enforcement activities across sensitive areas of the province.

Officials confirmed that the internet blackout is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing potential misuse of online platforms during the ongoing security operations. Authorities believe that temporary restrictions will help law enforcement agencies maintain control and prevent the spread of misinformation or coordination among suspected criminal elements. Residents, however, have reported difficulties in communication, online business transactions, and accessing digital services due to the outage.

Sources within the Home Department stated that the suspension was recommended after a detailed security briefing highlighted possible threats in and around Quetta. Although the duration of the shutdown has not been officially announced, the measure is expected to remain in place until the situation stabilizes. The provincial government has assured that the services will be restored as soon as security conditions allow.

Meanwhile, tension rose in Dera Murad Jamali where unidentified assailants hurled a grenade at the office of the SSP Highway Police on Friday. The grenade struck the gate of the building but did not cause any casualties or significant damage. Police teams immediately reached the site, cordoned off the area, and launched an investigation to trace the attackers involved in the incident.

Security officials have intensified patrolling and surveillance across major routes and sensitive installations following the attack. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to remain on high alert to ensure the protection of public offices and citizens. The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order in Balochistan, assuring that strict action will be taken against those attempting to disrupt stability in the region.
