Pakistan calls for accountability for Israeli crimes in Gaza

Pakistan demands accountability for Israel's atrocity crimes in Gaza, end to illegal settlements
UNITED NATIONS – Pakistan on Thursday demanded accountability for the “grave” Israeli atrocity crimes in Gaza and called for an end to illegal actions in the West Bank, including forced displacements, illegal settlements, and annexations.

Speaking at the UN Security Council, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, acting permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN, condemned the killing of over 68,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, in Gaza. He welcomed steps such as the ceasefire, the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the restoration of humanitarian flows, while denouncing continued Israeli attacks and aid restrictions.

Ambassador Jadoon also rejected Israel’s preliminary approval of draft laws to impose sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, calling them violations of international law. He emphasized the protection of Al-Haram Al-Sharif – Al-Aqsa Mosque, unhindered UNRWA operations, and the facilitation of UN relief, citing the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion.

He urged the launch of a credible, time-bound political process consistent with UN resolutions to establish an independent, sovereign State of Palestine on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. Ambassador Jadoon welcomed peace efforts led by mediators including Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United States, expressing hope for sustainable results and a permanent cessation of hostilities.

Pakistan affirmed its commitment to work with international partners to restore peace, justice, and dignity to the Palestinian people, highlighting the vital roles of the UN, the Palestinian Authority, and the Security Council in Gaza’s reconstruction, governance, and institution-building.
