PESHAWAR – A political crisis is brewing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) after Governor Faisal Karim Kundi refused to accept the resignation of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, saying his signatures did not match.
The governor said he received two resignation letters with different signatures and asked Gandapur to visit the Governor House on October 15 to confirm them.

However, Gandapur insists both letters are authentic, posting on X that the signatures were his and that he stands by his decision to resign.

Meanwhile, the KP Assembly is scheduled to elect a new chief minister today. Four candidates are in the running — PTI’s Sohail Afridi, JUI-F’s Maulana Lutfur Rehman, PML-N’s Sardar Shah Jahan Yousaf, and PPP’s Arbab Zark Khan.

PTI’s legal team member Naim Haider Panjutha called the governor’s action “unconstitutional,” saying the law does not allow him to reject a resignation.
Legal experts warn that electing a new chief minister before the resignation is formally accepted could lead to a constitutional crisis, making the election legally invalid.
With internal divisions in PTI and confusion over the process, KP’s political future remains uncertain.
