The United Nations human rights chief, Volker Türk, welcomed President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan on Saturday. He called it a “vital opportunity” to end the long-running war in Gaza. Türk urged all sides to act in good faith and support a lasting ceasefire. He said the plan could stop the bloodshed once and for all and help rebuild the region. His comments were shared on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
The peace plan proposes a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the disarmament of Hamas. It comes after nearly two years of intense fighting. Hamas has agreed to release all hostages and enter peace talks. Trump has called on Israel to stop its military operations in Gaza. This move has increased global pressure for an end to the conflict.

Volker Türk said the plan offers hope to flood Gaza with humanitarian aid. He stressed that any peace deal must follow international human rights and humanitarian law. He also mentioned the need for a two-state solution to achieve lasting peace. The UN hopes this plan can lead to recovery and a better future for Palestinians.
The World Health Organization also supported the peace proposal. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted the chance to rebuild hospitals and restore medical services. He posted on X that “the best medicine is peace,” reflecting the urgent need for stability. Gaza’s health system has been badly damaged during the war.
