Maryam approves key development projects in Lahore

Published on: September 29, 2025 5:27 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday approved two key development projects for Lahore, signaling her government’s strong commitment to infrastructure improvement and city beautification. The initiatives, worth billions, are expected to significantly ease urban challenges and improve the quality of life for residents. Both projects will now be placed before the provincial cabinet for formal approval in the coming days.

According to official details, the Chief Minister sanctioned the construction of a new underground parking plaza at an estimated cost of Rs1.80 billion. This facility is designed to tackle the growing parking crisis in Lahore’s busy commercial zones, ensuring smoother traffic management and reducing congestion on main roads. Additionally, she also approved a beautification scheme for Tollinton Market, valued at Rs200 million, aiming to restore and modernize one of Lahore’s historic commercial landmarks.

These new measures are part of a broader development vision that Maryam Nawaz recently outlined in meetings with national institutions. She highlighted that nearly 20,000 kilometers of roads have already been built or repaired under ongoing development programs, offering better connectivity across Punjab. Moreover, she underscored the importance of urban transformation, environmental protection, and technological integration in the province’s growth strategy.

Furthermore, in an effort to combat environmental hazards, the Chief Minister announced the introduction of anti-smog guns, particularly for major cities struggling with severe air pollution. Alongside this, the appointment of wildlife rangers will strengthen conservation efforts and ensure that Punjab’s natural habitats remain safeguarded for future generations. These initiatives underline her government’s resolve to balance infrastructure growth with environmental sustainability.

On the transportation front, the provincial government is preparing to roll out 1,100 electric buses, offering modern and eco-friendly travel at subsidized fares of just Rs20 per ride. This project aims to reduce fuel dependency, cut emissions, and provide affordable mobility to thousands of commuters daily. Maryam Nawaz emphasized that these projects reflect a holistic governance approach, prioritizing health, environment, industry, and public services, while also positioning Punjab as a model of innovation and progress.
