Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York today. He said the world is more complex than ever, with international laws being openly violated. Humanitarian crises are growing, terrorism remains a serious threat, and disinformation is eroding global trust. Climate change poses a severe risk, especially to vulnerable countries like Pakistan.
Shehbaz emphasized that multilateralism is no longer optional but essential for global peace. He said Pakistan’s foreign policy follows the vision of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, based on peace, mutual respect, and dialogue. The prime minister condemned unprovoked aggression by India along Pakistan’s eastern border and warned that Pakistan would respond decisively to any attack.
He revealed that in May, India launched an unprovoked attack which Pakistan repelled with strong military action. He described Pakistan’s response as delivering a “bleeding nose” to the aggressors. Shehbaz criticized India for rejecting Pakistan’s offer for an independent international probe into the Pahalgam incident and for using the tragedy for political gain. India also attacked Pakistani cities and targeted civilians.
The prime minister praised Pakistan’s armed forces under Field Marshal Asim Munir and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Babar Sidhu for their professionalism and bravery. The air force successfully shot down seven Indian jets during the conflict, marking a decisive response to the aggression.
Shehbaz also credited U.S. President Donald Trump for helping broker a timely ceasefire that prevented a wider war in South Asia. He called on the global community to address long-standing issues like Kashmir, Palestine, climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, and sustainable development.
