The Supreme Court on Wednesday once again postponed the bail proceedings of PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the May 9 cases after the special prosecutor fell ill unexpectedly.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi led a three-member bench, including Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, which was scheduled to hear Khan’s bail petitions against Lahore High Court decisions in eight related cases.
At the start of the hearing, the prosecution informed the court that Special Prosecutor Zulfiqar Naqvi had developed food poisoning and could not appear, prompting a request to adjourn the case until next week.
Chief Justice Afridi rejected the request and announced that the hearing would continue tomorrow at 10:30 am, while also dismissing a plea by Khan’s sisters to address the bench during proceedings.
Yesterday, the court had also postponed the case after noting that additional documents submitted by Imran Khan’s counsel, Salman Safdar, required careful examination to ensure fairness for both sides in the matter.
During earlier sessions, the Chief Justice questioned the Lahore High Court’s dismissal of bail pleas, emphasizing that the Supreme Court would avoid commenting on merits to prevent prejudicing either party’s case.
The government was represented by Special Prosecutor Zulfiqar Naqvi, while Salman Safdar appeared for Imran Khan, as the next hearing is set to decide on the bail requests and related procedural matters.
