Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, announced on Wednesday that the party will continue to be part of the parliament, but will only decide its strategy for the upcoming by-elections after consultation with Imran Khan, the party’s incarcerated founding chairman.
Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar emphasized the importance of party unity and leadership consultation, saying: “We will remain in Parliament, but any decision regarding contesting the by-elections will be taken after meeting with Imran Khan.” He confirmed that a meeting with Khan is expected soon, where future political steps will be discussed.
Referring to PTI’s nationwide protest on August 5, Gohar termed it a major success, highlighting that party workers and supporters actively participated across every district. “Members were given responsibilities in their respective constituencies, and people came out in large numbers to show their support,” he said. “This is how democratic protest looks.”
Gohar also addressed the ongoing legal pressure on PTI leaders and lawmakers, pointing out that nearly every party member is facing 40 to 50 legal cases. Despite this, he stated that PTI legislators remain committed to fulfilling their parliamentary duties and representing the public.
The party’s approach signals a continued focus on Imran Khan’s leadership, as it navigates a complex political and legal environment ahead of by-elections. Khan, currently serving multiple prison sentences, remains at the center of PTI’s political decisions, with the leadership maintaining that no key move will be made without his input.
