CM Maryam puts Punjab on high alert amid heavy monsoon rains

Published on: July 8, 2025 1:45 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered all relevant departments to remain on high alert due to ongoing heavy monsoon rains across the province. She issued immediate instructions for timely action to prevent flooding and minimize public inconvenience during the downpour.

CM Maryam directed WASA, PDMA, Rescue 1122, Local Government, and Traffic Police to actively monitor the situation on the ground. She emphasized that field teams must remain fully alert and respond swiftly to emergencies in low-lying areas vulnerable to water accumulation.

To ensure effective drainage, she instructed WASA officials and administrative officers, including commissioners and deputy commissioners, to personally supervise operations. Their presence in the field, she said, will help resolve issues quickly and build public trust during the crisis.

In addition, she ordered the traffic police to release a detailed traffic plan and guide citizens on alternate routes to avoid roadblocks and waterlogged streets. She stressed the importance of keeping the public informed in real-time through all available communication channels.

CM Maryam made it clear that no delays in response will be tolerated. She urged all departments to stay in constant contact and work together to solve problems without confusion or overlap. Immediate relief to the public, she said, must remain the top priority.

The chief minister’s proactive approach aims to tackle the challenges brought by the monsoon and ensure the safety and convenience of Punjab’s citizens through rapid and coordinated government action.
