French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France, Germany, and the United Kingdom are working on presenting Iran with a comprehensive diplomatic solution to help de-escalate its ongoing conflict with Israel. Speaking at the Paris Air Show, Macron emphasized that diplomacy remains the only viable way forward, especially as tensions in the region continue to rise.
Macron stated that French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot will meet his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, in Geneva for what he described as “full diplomatic and technical negotiations.” These talks are part of a broader European effort aimed at restarting meaningful discussions on Iran’s nuclear program, its ballistic missile development, and the funding of armed militant groups.
The French president warned of the serious risks a nuclear-armed Iran could pose to regional and global security. He stressed that Iran must demonstrate a willingness to engage in sincere dialogue. According to Macron, the European diplomatic track offers Tehran a peaceful alternative to armed conflict and a chance to rebuild international trust.
Meanwhile, the talks in Geneva are expected to include top foreign ministers from Germany and the UK, alongside European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell. The U.S. has reportedly expressed cautious support for this initiative, though Washington has not committed to joining the discussions directly as long as hostilities continue between Israel and Iran.
Macron concluded by urging all parties to choose diplomacy over confrontation. He underscored that lasting peace in the region will only be achieved through cooperation, compromise, and a commitment to international law, not through military escalation or mutual threats.
