Sir: Through advertisements in the media, the Punjab Government Energy Department is inviting private investors to set up coal fired power plants at various locations in Punjab. The Punjab government is also offering a number of incentives to the investors. I would like to request the Chief Minister Punjab to take pity on the people of the province and learn a lesson from Germany on how to tackle the energy crisis. Germany is going to become the first country in the world that meets all its electricity requirements from solar, wind and biomass. It also intends to dismantle all its nuclear and coal-based power generation plants. Other countries of the world are also investing in solar and wind power generation instead of coal and furnace oil based power generation plants, which are causing global warming and polluting the environment. Why do Pakistani leaders lack vision and not think and plan for future generations? Why they spend national wealth on useless projects? I wish Pakistan should follow Germany as a role model for its education system and energy projects. Pakistan is blessed with the sun, wind and water resources that should be utilised for the production of electricity and not coal and nuclear that are being discarded by developed countries.
