ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Friday seized one kilogramme of heroin from a passenger at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport. ANF officials said the passenger, Irfan, was set to board an Airblue flight for Abu Dhabi when the drug was seized from his handbag during checking at the immigration counter. Irfan, who hails from Nankana Sahib, denied he had any knowledge about the presence of heroin in his bag. The suspect was arrested and shifted to ANF headquarters. A First Information Report (FIR) was later registered against him under Section 9-C of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act. According to officials, the suspect will be presented before a local magistrate on Saturday to seek his physical remand. PIA drug recovery case: Two intelligence agencies have been assigned the task to identify the culprits behind the case of drugs recovered from PIA planes. According to reliable sources, two important personalities affiliated with the pilots’ union are being investigated in the inquiry. The official further disclosed that the air hostess and pilots of PIA travelling on various flights to Europe maintained contacts with such narcotics gangs. According to reliable sources, five Pakistanis persons living in Italy, France and Germany are members of the drug gang, who are involved in drug dealing. PIA pilots and employees of other departments had also organised special parties for the alleged drug smugglers in posh areas of Lahore. Employees of various departments of PIA were involved in the case, as several people participated in transporting drugs and concealing them in the airplanes. The accounts of PIA employees are also being monitored.
