ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) cardiac department technicians and nine senior doctors threatened on Saturday to boycott their duties if they are not paid their salaries. According to details, the cardiac department doctors, through an application, have informed PIMS management that they have been working in PIMS for the last 11 years. “However, since June 2015, we have not been paid our salaries. Our contracts are also not being extended,” they said. The grade 16 to 20 employees who have not been paid outstanding salaries have urged the authorities to extend their contracts besides regularising them and ensuring payment of outstanding dues till June 1. Otherwise, they said, they would not perform their duties. Nine doctors and 31 technical and non-technical staff were hired to work in the cardiac department in 2006 on contract basis. PIMs administration and CADD Ministry had forwarded a summary to the PM for regularising the employees by relaxing the rules, but nothing has been done so far. PIMS head Javed Akram said that the process of interviews would soon be started for regularisation of these doctors.
