Published on: April 23, 2016 2:47 AM

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Governor Punjab Rafique Rajwana has said that all countrymen are the stakeholders of Pakistan and it is the responsibility of every citizen to play his role for solidarity of the country.

He was speaking to a certificate distributing ceremony at the conclusion of 8th National Media Workshop in Institute of Strategic Studies Research and Analysis, National Defence University NDU in the federal capital on Friday.

The governor said that today media has become very complex and multi-faceted source of communication and it had earned a global reputation of being an essence of freedom.

He said that the media is considered as fourth pillar of the society as well as estate and it has played a pivotal role in creating awareness among the masses about all spheres of life.

He said that besides the national and global importance of media, there are huge responsibilities of media persons to uphold the national interest and solidarity of the country. He lauded the efforts of NDU for rendering the service as “Think Tank” for the national security and providing a platform to different segments of society to share their knowledge and experiences with each other and formulate recommendations, which can be incorporated in national plans and policies.

The governor paid tributes to the great sacrifices of Pakistan Army in operation Zarb-e-Azb and said that the prime minister of Pakistan, parliamentarians and all political parties made a consensus to launch the operation against terrorism and Pakistan Armed Forces are doing a commendable job to completely eliminate terrorism from the country. He said that the constitution has clearly defined fundamental rights and we all must have to make ourselves self-accountable in our perspectives.

The Punjab governor appreciated the keen interest of participants in the “National Media Workshop” and asked them to get benefit of the outcomes of workshops in their respective professional responsibilities. He also admired the curriculum of National Defence University, which has been made very objective and informative for the participants. Earlier, National Defence University President Lieutenant General Nazir Ahmed Butt, HI (M), in his welcome address highlighted salient features of the workshop.
