LAHORE: Pakistan Railways (PR) Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on Saturday directed the authorities concerned to start beautification and improvement work along the tracks from Kot Lakhpat to Shahdara. A meeting held at Pakistan Railways Headquarters discussed matters related to beautification and improvement of the railway track from Shahdara to Raiwind. Addressing the meeting, the minister said in the first phase, work should be carried out on the areas that were densely populated and where the work should be completed in a short time. Pakistan Horticulture Authority (PHA) Director General Mian Shakeel briefed the minister in detail about the project. The meeting discussed various aspects of the project to make it the best, so that people could enjoy facilities that would be provided to them at various points along the track. The minister also directed authorities concerned that proper safety measures should be adopted at those places where recreational facilities would be provided along the track under this project. It is pertinent to mention that the Punjab chief minister had given initial approval of this project. Efforts were being made for signing of an agreement between the PHA and Railways at the earliest. Lahore Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal, PHA Vice Chairman Iftikhar Ahmad along with Waqar Sheikh, Anjum Pervaiz, DCO Lahore Captain (Retd) Muhammad Usman, PR Infrastructure Assistant General Manager Humayun Rashid and others were also present.
