ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will perform the groundbreaking ceremony of Sukkur-Multan Motorway on Friday, a statement issued by the PM House said Thursday. A part of theChina-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the project was initiated on the directives of the prime minister to link Karachi with Peshawar through a network of motorways. The stretch of Sukkur-Multan motorway would be 393-kilometrelong, which will add to the importance and transport efficiency of the nation. The six-lane motorway starting from Multan would pass through JalalpurPeerwala, Ahmed Pur East, Ubaro, Pano Aqil and will terminate at Sukkur. The project would comprise 54 bridges – including one major bridge on River Sutlej. It will also consist of 12 service areas, 10 rest areas, 11 interchanges, 10 flyovers and 426 underpasses. The motorway would provide high-speed transportation betweenSindh and Punjab. The project would be completed with the financial assistance of China under the contract awarded to China StateConstruction Engineering Corporation.
