KARACHI: Federal Minister for Information Pervez Rashid refuted on Saturday that the government and army are not on the same page. Addressing the members of newly elected body of Council of Pakistan Newspapers’ Editors Standing Committee at an Iftar dinner, he warned any harm to democracy will also be harmful for journalism. On the issue of Pak-Afghanistan border management, the minister said Afghanistan should remove Islamabad’s reservations “and we will also do the same”. He said the infrastructure put up by Pakistan would also benefit every neighbouring country and will also be helpful for peace in the region. On the killing of qawwal Amjad Sabri qawwal, he said the law enforcing agencies are close to nabbing his killers. On the matter of kidnapping of Sindh High Court Chief Justice’s son Awais Shah, Pervez Rashid said the law-enforcing agencies have intensified their operation to ensure his safe and sound recovery. Speaking about the Pak-China Economic Corridor, the minister said the law enforcement agencies were tightening the noose around the miscreants opposed to it. Pervaiz denied reports about forward block in Pakistan Muslim League-N and claimed that all the PML-N members have been participating in the budget meetings. He said everyone should be held accountable “and we should keep confidence in the Election Commission and other national institutions”. He said opposition seems divided. “If they stand united they can stage protests.”
