RAWALPINDI: Water supply from Khanpur Dam to Rawalpindi and Islamabad has been reduced by 50 per cent. Due to severe water shortage, the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board is considering rationing water among consumers. The process will start from June 12. Underground water level has also fallen to dangerous levels. This has caused a shortage of water being supplied from tube wells. Unannounced load shedding is also another factor behind water shortage. “If there is no rain in the coming 10 days, then a severe water crisis will start in Rawalpindi,” officials said. On the other hand, water tanker owners have raised their rates from Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000 per tanker.
