PESHAWAR: The Regional Tax Office, Abbottabad showed unprecedented recovery of tax collections during the financial year closed on of June 30 this year and shared top honour by virtue of recovery growth of 35 percent as overall growth shown by other filed formations remain at 20 percent.FBR is proud of achieving a historic collection mark of 3104 (B) during the year, the level of jubilation is high at Regional Tax Office, Abbottabad. Sources said that as the fiscal year 2015-16 closed the provisional figures till late mid night confirm the lead maintained by the RTO, Abbottabad as compared to other filed formations of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). This year the Regional Tax Office, Abbottabad has given a growth of 35 percent as compared to the last year against the national average growth of 20 percent. The same trend continued in the month of June and the provisional collection for the year has reached Rs 7700m which is more than 35 percent higher than the collection of previous year, an official of the RTO Abbottabad said. He disclosed that the positive growth is witnessed in all the taxes collected by the Regional Tax Office. He said the sales tax collection is 42 percent higher than the previous year while income tax growth is at 32 percent, the withholding tax growth is more than 30 percent against the national average of almost 20 percent. While expressing his gratitude to the top leadership of Federal Board of Revenue, Chief Commissioner Mehmood Lilla said that such results are achieved by the grace of Almighty Allah and the collective team efforts of the officials of the Regional Tax Office, Abbottabad.He said that the growth is witnessed in all spheres and is not restricted to withholding taxes adding that the tax demand created by the tax offices of Abbottabad was 27 percent higher than the previous year and the collection out of arrear and current demand was 43 percent more than the previous year. The corporate taxpayers, educational and health institutions including doctors were properly monitored, not only for payment of withholding taxes but also the advance taxes in terms of provision of law. In case of chronic defaulters, extremes measures for recovery like attachment of bank A/C and show cause notices for arrests were also adopted. On the other hand, meetings were held with representatives of various associations to persuade them for due payment of taxes. The Member Inland Revenue (Operations), Dr Muhammad Irshad, has lauded the performance of Regional Tax Office, Abbottabad and felicitated the chief commissioner and his team for producing such excellent results.
