ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Monday urged the government to play its mediatory role to end the current standoff between Qatar and Gulf countries as the whole Muslim Umma was disturbed over the brewing tensions in the Gulf region involving the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Khalid Iqbal Malik said that Pakistan had good clout with Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and other gulf countries. “It should play a positive role to end the current standoff between Qatar and other gulf countries through dialogue. Millions of Pakistanis are working in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and other Gulf countries, but due to the drop in oil prices, these countries are facing macro-economic instability,” he said. He said that if the current tense situation continued, it would further weaken the economies of these countries and more people would lose jobs.
