Heaps of garbage on city roads cause nuisance to citizens

Published on: July 13, 2016 12:36 AM

KARACHI: The sewerage and drainage has blocked roads in various areas of metropolis during monsoon season, which resulted in heavy traffic jam particularly at a road of Bin Qasim Industrial sector since Eid. The roads inundated with garbage start from National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) to Sindh University, Gulistan-e-Jauhar to Gabol Chowrangi, Malir, and Qaidabad to Bin Qasim Industrial Road via Razzakabad National Highway, Daily Times has learnt. Sources said that long traffic queues had been witnessed due to blockage of sewerage systems and heaps of garbage had spread over on the roads. According to the local government, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has granted Rs 500 million for the maintenance of roads and removal of garbage from drains in the metropolis. The district administration, DMC, and the Town Municipal Administration (TMA) are reluctant to solve public issues including the issues of dilapidated roads in Malir and Bin Qasim Industrial sector. The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has sent a notice to the authorities for heavy rainfalls in the province, in which the PDMA instructed all concerned departments to take precautionary measures to ensure safety. Shahrah-e-Faisal Road, Airport Road, Malir Cantt Road, Qaidabad Road, Korangi Industrial area and University Road also witnessed heavy traffic jam due to the sewerage water mounted on roads in the city. Daily Times tried to contact the Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro and other officials for this matter, but none of them were available due to Eid holidays. The transporters and traders in city have appealed the authorities to immediately construct the damaged portions of the city roads and remove heaps of garbage and sewerage water from the roads.
