Sir: The Drugs Regulatory Authority has abruptly increased the prices of approximately 70,000 medicines. This has been done in contrast to the existing rules. Following the decision of the authority, the prices of scheduled and non-scheduled drugs have been unilaterally increased by 1.23 percent and to 2.88 percent. The notification from the authority comes in stark contrast to the government’s claims of providing relief to the masses. Government’s claims of people’s welfare do not match with the ground reality. The government has failed to provide facilities in the health and education sectors. Unemployment is on the rise. Common Man is unable to cope with this unbridled increases in the prices of commodities & medicines. The drug authority raises the prices of medicine almost 3 to 4 times every year. There is no check and balance on the functioning of the body. Through this esteemed newspaper, I would like to request the Prime Minister to take notice of the issue and order the authorities concerned check the prices of drugs. JAVAID BASHIR Lahore
