RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has decided to start checking the medicines supplied to all the government hospitals located across Punjab, including Rawalpindi. The government is setting up raiding teams, which will conduct surprise checking of hospitals to verify whether the required and certified medicines were available. According to media reports, a team has been established under Rawalpindi Medical University Vice Chancellor Professor Umar for allied hospitals. The teams can collect samples of medicines and get them tested from any laboratory in Pakistan or any other country. According to sources, these initiatives are being taken as many pharmaceutical companies are involved in getting medicines certified by giving bribe to DTL officials, due to which patients are not provided quality medicines. According to sources, no action has been taken against private medical stores and pharmaceutical companies supplying fake medicines. A large number of fake medicines are available in private hospitals across the province. According to figures, over 50 percent of medicines available at private hospitals are either fake or non-registered.
