LARKANA: The shops selling pure butter are decreasing very rapidly as 491 shops have already closed this business saying people are unwilling to pay the due price of the original merchandise. The survey conducted by Daily Times on Thursday showed that there were 500 shops doing business of original butter; but now only nine shops were found in the markets from where pure butter could be bought. According to shopkeepers, people like to buy adulterated butter, because it is cheaper than the original as taste is not an issue in modern times. The shopkeepers said that residents of Larkana have not grown up drinking milk of buffalos or cows; rather they have drunk milk packs from their childhood. The shopkeepers said that various localities, such as Shahi Bazaar, Jalus Bazaar, Anaj Mandi, Pakistani Chowk and others were famous for the market of pure butter; as a result villagers would come there to sell their butter; but they are looking deserted now. A shopkeeper Jan Muhammad told that another reason of shortage of original butter was unreasonable deforestation in rural areas, which has reduced ratio of domestic animals like goats and sheep. Shopkeeper Gianchand told that in the past people would take lassi, milk, butter and condensed milk, but now they are taking tea; so milk is sold for tea at small hotels in villages. The price of pure butter is Rs 750 per kilo gram, which is expensive, says a customer.
