PESHAWAR: Tourism Department Secretary Tariq Khan has launched an impartial inquiry on media reports against mass-level irregularities in the Arts Festival organised by the department in the month of May for artists of the province. The festival was held for the people associated with different kinds of art in the province. According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Music Society, Tourism Department Secretary Tariq Khan decided to conduct an inquiry when malpractices and anomalies were reported in the event. As per the details and an official notification, Tourism and Culture Department Deputy Director Shahbaz Khan has been given the task to carry out an impartial inquiry and pinpoint those involved in corruption. The Tourism Department had given Rs 14 million contract of the art festival organised in the first week of May in Peshawar to a private firm without issuing any tender policy. Soon after the event concluded, various prominent artist of the province approached media outlets to raise their grievances regarding the anomalies. They raised the issue of corruption in the award of contract and protested against the Tourism Department for ignoring eminent artistes in the festival.
