ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of the rampant abduction of children in different parts of the country, a legislative body of Upper House of Parliament on Tuesday directed Ministry of Interior secretary to take appropriate measure to prevent it immediately and provide details in this regard in next meeting. The news created unrest among the parents and some even stopped sending their children to schools for fear of kidnapping. The kidnapping reports were alarming in the provincial capital of Punjab, Lahore, where uncertainty prevailed among the children parents. The Senate Standing committee on Interior and Narcotics Control held its meeting today in Parliament House which Senator Rehman Malik chaired. He said some kidnapper tried to kidnap a little girl and when her mother resisted, she was also put in a vehicle. However, the mother succeeded in escaping from the clutches of kidnappers but also witnessed several children were kidnapped in the same vehicle. The committee was of the view that if such insecurity persisted, parents would stop sending children to schools, which would badly affect future of these children and also of Pakistan. The Secretary Interior assured the committee that inputs from provinces would be taken and apprised the committee soon. The committee also expressed displeasure over anti-Pakistan statements/slogans by the MQM chief. Committee chairman Rehman Malik said those who spoke against Pakistan was an enemy of the whole nation. He also condemned the attack on media houses in Karachi by the MQM and demanded strict action over it. The committee seeks a detailed report over MQM’s violent protest and attack on media houses and directed IG and Home Secretary Sindh to present details in the next meeting. Cyber security: Chairman of the committee Rehman Malik demanded of the government to bring a Bill over cyber security because it was a matter of national importance. The country’s cyber boundaries were not safe. According to him, a malware hacked Pakistan Army officer phones, which was a serious threat to the country’s security. Apart from it, there were some phone sets, which used multiple times the same IEM numbers in several phone sets. In such case it was difficult for investigative agencies to identify the exact number of phone used in criminal or terrorist activities. The committee directed the interior ministry to consult the other stake holders like ministry of IT, and government to department to ensure proper legislation and measures to safe country cyber boundary and stop the use of such phone sets which used the same IEM numbers in several phones set.
