A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) will hear Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz’s bail application in Ramzan Sugar Mills case today (Wednesday). The two-member bench of the Lahore High Court headed by Justice Baqir Najfi will take up the case. Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and DG NAB Lahore have been made party. Hamza Shehbaz was taken into custody by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday (June 11) after the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected his interim bail in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case and assets beyond means sources of income cases. Earlier this year, a Lahore High Court two-judge bench recused itself from the bail matter of Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz after he expressed reservations on it in the light of a controversial media interview of NAB Chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal. The bench comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem was hearing arguments of Mr Hamza’s counsel in Ramzan Sugar Mills case when the opposition leader came to the rostrum and sought permission to address the court personally. On being allowed to speak, Mr Hamza said he had grave reservations regarding the NAB as its chairman gave a controversial interview to the media. He said the bureau’s chairman claimed that the bench of the high court hearing NAB-related cases had been changed and managed.
