A special court for control of narcotics substance on Saturday extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member National Assembly (MNA) Rana Sanaullah till December 21 in the heroin recovery case. Owing to law and order issue, Rana Sanauallah was not produced before the court. The police submitted its report in this regard. “Rana Sanaullah was not produced before the court due to law and order situation,” the police report said. “The suspect could not be produced owing to bad law and order situation, and requested to adjourn the hearing. The plea was accepted and the hearing was postponed till next week,” the report said. The court after extending judicial remand of the PML-N stalwart till December 21, adjourned the hearing. At the last hearing of the case on December 14, the defence lawyers as a protest against the inappropriate behavior of police personnel had boycotted the court proceedings. Defence lawyer Tahir Khalil Sindhu had said that the security officials resorted to violence against him and other lawyers. The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had submitted charge-sheet against the PML-N stalwart in July this year, in a case pertaining to the alleged recovery of heroin from his car. The ANF submitted the charge-sheet to the relevant court seized with the hearing of the case. Rana Sanaullah and six other suspects have been named in the 200-page long challan. Let it be known that the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had arrested Rana Sanaullah on July 1, claiming to have recovered 15-kg heroin from his vehicle. The FIR was lodged under section 9 (C) of Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997, which carries death penalty or life imprisonment or a jail-term that may extend to 14 years along with a fine up to Rs1 million. It is pertinent here to mention that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in its Executive Board’s meeting in Islamabad, presided over by chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, had approved an investigation into assets beyond known sources of income owned by Rana Sanaullah.
