Argentina, Pakistan mark 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties

Published on: October 20, 2016 1:47 AM

ISLAMABAD: Ivan Ivanissevich, Ambassador of Argentina, on Wednesday said Pakistan and Argentina had always attached priority to mutual support within international organisations.

He said this while addressing a ceremony held at Argentina Park, Islamabad. The ceremony was organised with regard to the commemoration of 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Argentina and Pakistan.

“Since 1947, we have shared common understandings, particularly in matters related to securing a better future for our respective people”, the envoy said.

Ivanissevich along with mayor of Islamabad/Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Sheikh Ansar Aziz and Dr Asad Majeed Khan, Additional Secretary Americas, presented flowers at the monument of Argentina Park, which is a symbol of long standing friendship between the two countries.

The ceremony started with the national anthems of both the countries just before the formal presentation of flowers at the monument.

The event was marked by the presence of government authorities, ambassadors of various countries, heads of international organisations and people from all walks of life.

In his speech, the envoy, while referring to the excellent state of bilateral relations with Pakistan, expressed that the geographical distance separating our two countries should not be regarded as an obstacle to the traditional friendship that unites Argentina and Pakistan.

The Argentina Park was the best expression of such understandings, particularly within the United Nations (UN), both at the UNGA and UN Security Council levels, he said. The people of Argentina will always remain thankful to Pakistan for granting the privilege for having one of the few parks in Islamabad named after our country, he added.

The ambassador said that during the Monsoon season, the embassy would like to endow it with a few additional Argentine native trees, which will add further colour to the trees and plants.
