GCU Endowment Fund gets donation of Rs 1 million

gcuThe Endowment Fund Trust of Government College University (GCU)Lahore got a donation of one million rupees in order to provide financial support to the needy and deserving students of the university.

The cheque was received by the Executive Committee of Endowment Fund Trust Secretary Professor Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt from Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Almas Haider in a simple but graceful ceremony held in the chamber. It is heartening that different organisations and banks are coming forward for this noble and constructive cause of GCU which is the only example in public sector universities of Pakistan. GCU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Hassan Amir Shah welcomed and praised the LCCI for the donation. Every year trust gives financial support about Rs 15 million to over 700 needy students, he said.

This year, the trust awarded scholarships worth 15 million which also included more than 50 golden scholarships which covered the full university fee and hostel expenses of a student, the Endowment Fund’s Executive Committee Secretary Professor Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt said. The trust had awarded more than Rs. 85 million scholarships overall to 2,850 students since 2009, he said. The cost of education is rising every year and collective efforts are required to help the bright students of the society who cannot afford their academic expenses, Professor Butt said.

This is the only Endowment Trust which is a success story for others, he added.
